Target 2030 is (in our opinion) the most prestigious automotive design competition in victoria. now in its 7th year, target 2030 is an automotive industry event which allows students to showcase their exceptional talents. the competition is open to all victorian secondary and tertiary students and the brief is simple: ‘design the car, or vehicle, of the future’. there are three categories – model-making, design and essay. winners receive cash prizes and the same amount is also presented to the winner’s school, college, or university. but target 2030 is more than just simply trying to win prizes. the models, designs and essays are judged by respected automotive designers and motoring journalists. the event receives media coverage. secondary students present their designs when applying to college or university and tertiary students present their designs when applying for jobs. when the australian international motor show is in melbourne, some entries are exhibited at the mec, in front of hundreds of thousands of people including ceo’s and chief designers of the world’s biggest manufacturers. news of the 2012 competition will follow shortly, but in the meantime, become a ‘friend’ of target 2030 on facebook and chat to other young designers and post your ideas and images. david russell vacc senior manager
