The call for entries has opened for taiwan's golden pin design award (gpda) 2016–the only international huaren-focused design award in the world, inviting designers from around the world to flaunt products and projects that cater to the global huaren community. now in its third year of accepting international submissions, this unique award offers designers and companies around the world valuable bilingual brand exposure for their product or design projects. entries to the gpda are accepted in four categories: product design, visual communication design, packaging design, and spatial design. entered products and projects are assessed in three stages by an expert panel of international judges. entrants who pass the second selection will receive a coveted golden pin design award mark–an indicator of innovation that they can use to market their product or design project. just three of these gpda mark recipients will receive a best design trophy bespoke-designed by world renowned taiwanese glass art brand, liuligongfang at a grand ceremony in taipei in december 2016. the global huaren community and its associated highly diverse markets constitute one of the most powerful economies in the world. however, until the inauguration of the golden pin design award, the subject of huaren design was desperately under-explored. the gpda seeks to honor the most innovative design products and projects created within and for this market, giving contemporary huaren designers a stage on which they can be recognized. “all of our endeavors both facilitate the development of huaren design and the methods and practices related to it, and also help to define the lifestyle of the huaren community. huaren design is a complex notion that embraces huaren history, philosophy, and culture passed down from our ancestors, but also incorporates the modern lifestyles and needs of contemporary consumers. the challenge posed by the golden pin design award requires designers to think deeply and critically about huaren culture on an abstract level, and apply these principles to present-day functional and aesthetic design,” says mr. wenlong chen, ceo of the taiwan design center. executive:taiwan design center, tdc 1. entry qualification (1) products on sale, produced, or designed in or for any huaren (chinese-speaking) community around the world. products or projects should be entered by a brand or company registered in a chinese-speaking community.
